“The doors to the world of the wild self are few but precious. If you have a deep scar, that is a door, if you have an old, old story, that is a door. If you love the sky and the water so much you almost cannot bear it, that is a door. If you yearn for a deeper life, a full life, a sane life, that is a door.”
-Clarissa Pinkola Estes
Finding Refugio
I spent the last week in the high and low California desert. Beyond the topography, I wasn’t prepared for how I would struggle with my family’s own footprint through Riverside County. If anything, I think it speaks to the living breathing dynamic between self, history and the land.
Micro-Shifts
My new favorite (hyphenated) word is micro-shift. THIS is coming from a girl who has, for much of her life, moved in broad strokes.
The Pathway of an Open Heart
They say that an open heart is a vulnerable heart. I would say, yes, that is true. But an open heart is also a fluid, dynamic and courageous heart that make itself available through vulnerability, time and time again, to all life (in it's own dynamism) has to offer.
Grace Under Fire
Yamamoto Tsunetomo ponders in Hagakure, “There is something to be learned from a rainstorm. When meeting with a sudden shower, you try not to get wet and run quickly along the road. But doing such things as passing under the eaves of houses, you still get wet.
Inanna’s Descent
There is a 5,000 year old myth told in prose about the Sumerian Goddess Inanna and her descent through the 7 gates of the underworld.
Wholeness
After a week of striving, of needing, of doing, of closing the gaps, and scaling the mountains, or trying to become or gain or have. What if we considered for just a moment that we are already whole.
Let The Ground Hold You
One of my favorite yoga positions is Shavasana. Corpse pose is actually one of the hardest and under appreciated positions in yoga.
My Word For 2018
My Word for 2018 is FOUNDATION. Foundation; “1. the basis or groundwork of anything, 2. the natural or prepared ground or base on which some structure rests. 3. the lowest division of a building, wall, or the like..”
Hope: A 2018 Invocation
Looking back at 2017, it was filled with peaks of intensity, valleys of challenges and simply put, new terrain. Ultimately, for me, it was a bridge crossing over into a year that blew the door open in the earliest hours. 2018 it seems, was not willing to slip quietly in through the night.
You Are the Hearth of Your Home
What if I said to you: You are the hearth of your own home?
Notes From My Fall Cocoon
Sometimes there’s no words, just a genuine desire for silence. I could feel the shift coming early this month but held off.
Love Yourself Through It
Things fall apart in waves. A more direct way to say it is, sometimes, sh*t hits the fan. Usually it's because we've just been maintaining, or not tending to what has been simmering beneath the surface.
Surrender
If you feel mounting pressure around you and within you, the release valve you are looking for can be found in the act of surrender. What is an act of surrender?
